Private Instruction
“Through my sessions with Kate I am working on my goals of improving my core strength, increasing my flexibility for running, and attaining better balance. I feel that I am making great progress in meeting these goals through my work with Kate. I prefer private sessions to classes and having Kate come into my home for one-on-one instruction makes it so much more feasible for me to have a personal practice. Kate really listens to what works or doesn’t work for me and then tailors my practice to meet my needs. It is the best investment in my health that I have ever made. An added bonus is that my outlook on life is much more focused and happier. Kate is not only very professional, she makes yoga fun!”
For thousands of years the tradition of yoga has been passed down on an individual basis from student to teacher. In recent time this type of delivery system has been overshadowed by the gaining popularity of group classes. For some, these types of classes are the perfect catch all, targeting general parts of the body and introducing breathing techniques and yoga postures to create room for change. For others, this one size fits all just doesn’t seem to fit from the get-go or over time. Here’s why not.
We carry our physical experiences with us in our mind and body. For every one of us struggling to overcome anxiety through breathing exercises and positive self-talk there is another working through a ten year shoulder injury from collegiate swimming. For each of us that suffers from stiff joints and pain there is an individual in the classroom who needs to workshop and experiment with handstand to quiet their mind and begin to move towards stillness.
Group classes have their place. They are ideal for inspiring you back to the mat. For introducing you to new styles, postures, and teachers. For reminding you of the power of collective intention and movement. And maybe even for inspiring you to work on your own at-home practice – one where you can move and breathe exactly as you wish. In addition to group yoga classes, we should begin the process of creating and sustaining an at-home yoga practice that targets areas of mental and physical tension. And that brings us to private sessions.
Private sessions truly cater to everyone regardless of where they are on their yoga path. Beginners, advanced yogis, yoga teachers, once a month practitioners, mamas, athletes, desk dwellers, commuters, dudes, grandparents, people plagued by chronic illness and fatigue, those who can’t sleep, those who sleep too much, sorority girls, kids. Everyone.
What can you expect? Let’s meet and chat and set intentions and the ground work for a sustainable at-home practice. From their we will meet at your home and create the physical and metaphorical room for an at-home yoga practice that is designed to suit your needs. With time we will carve out a sequence that is designed especially for you and meet to work on alignment, discuss hurdles, and learn variations and modifications as your practice {and life} evolves.
It’s time to find what is already there.
